For many, that first visit to a medical herbalist can be a life changing experience, a chance to experience true healthcare as it should be practised. Your medical herbalist is a genuine, caring partner in health from the cradle to the third age - NIMH
Jeanette Lilly Blanks, a Western Medical Herbalist and Naturopath, provides holistic healthcare for the entire family. She cares for patients ranging in age from infants to the elderly.
She utilises a variety of therapeutics including herbal medicine, flower essences, nutritional therapy, dietary therapy and lifestyle counseling. She has a wide breadth of expertise and knowledge to assist her patients in health and healing. As a qualified Western medical herbalist, Jeanette has studied orthodox medicine as well as traditional plant medicine and is trained in the same diagnostic skills as an orthodox doctor. Jeanette takes a holistic approach to illness, aiming to identify and eradicate the underlying cause of a condition rather than simply treating the symptoms. Her treatment protocol aims to invigorate the body's own healing defenses to restore balance within the body. She is an advocate of patient empowerment and encourages her patients
to actively participate in their healing process. Preventative care is also a very important component of the way in which
Jeanette cares for her patients. She
forms a health partnership with each patient, providing education to help guide
them to make lifestyle choices which promote optimal wellness.
Most conditions seen by an orthodox doctor can be addressed with herbal medicine and holistic therapy:
v Allergies and food intolerances
v Asthma and respiratory disorders
v Autoimmune conditions
v Arthritis & rheumatism
v Cardiovascular health
v Children’s ailments
v Cholesterol & blood pressure management
v Cystitis & urinary disorders

A Consultation with Jeanette
Initial Consultation (75-90 minutes)
In the initial consultation, Jeanette will formulate a picture of your health by taking a comprehensive case history, covering not only your present complaint, but also your wider medical history, current medication, diet and lifestyle. This detailed insight will allow Jeanette to assess the underlying cause(s) of your condition. In conjunction with clinical experience, where relevant Jeanette may also employ functional laboratory tests to assist in understanding the underlying cause of a patient’s symptoms.
At the end of the consultation, Jeanette will discuss and devise an individualised treatment plan in co-operation with you, and prescribe and compound as necessary. A prescription is often a tincture or a tea formulation. Capsules and tablets are sometimes used. For external requirements, creams, lotions or ointments may be compounded.
No two patients are alike; therefore, formulations are not pre-prepared. All prescriptions are compounded specifically for each individual following the consultation.
Follow-up Consultation (30-45 minutes)
Two weeks after the initial consultation, Jeanette will reschedule to meet with you to assess your progress and to make any alterations to your prescription. Depending on the nature of your condition, a further three or four short consultations may be necessary to continually monitor your progress. If the condition warrants it, a three month and six month check-up may also be arranged. |

 | Eating to heal herpes The herpes virus depends on the amino acid arginine for replication, so if you’re susceptible to cold sores, avoid food sources of arginine including dairy products, chocolate, meat, soybeans, white flour, walnuts, and wheat germ. The essential amino acid lysine displaces arginine and has been proven to speed up recovery following a herpes outbreak. Look for lysine in eggs, fish, lima beans, and potatoes.
